So, today I went to my stepfather’s with my sister for an obligatory “Let’s Take Him to Dinner for his Birthday” evening.
It was nice. He did not get too obnoxious.
Then, at the end, he decides to tell us what our Christmas gift is.

The memories of my family outings are still a source of strength to me. I remember we’d all pile into the car - I forget what kind it was - and drive and drive. I’m not sure where we’d go, but I think there were some trees there. The smell of something was strong in the air as we played whatever sport we played. I remember a bigger, older guy we called “Dad.” We’d eat some stuff, or not, and then I think we went home. I guess some things never leave you.

Following Da Goddess’s lead on this:
1. the love from Mom when she was still alive.
2. My remaining family, (especially sisters Pinky and Princess) even though sometimes I want to poke them with freshly sharpened pencils.
3. My dog Paisley. She fills my heart with love.
4. My dog in heaven, Keesa. Her memories keep me strong.
5. whoever thought of putting peanut butter and chocolate together, I think them.
6. To those who broke down doors before, so life has gotten better for women.
7. For the global community, so one person sitting in America can actually affect others…at their computer.
8. For Oprah Winfrey. She tells the truth.
9. For policemen and firemen
10. For learning to blog!
11. For receiving kind medical help
12. New potatoes. Love those.
13. For the mT support forum and for scriptygoddess.
14. For my bed, into which I am heading after another sleepless night.
15. For love, and hope.
16. For my big handheld vibrator so I can easily reach my back where it hurts.
G’nite.

Well, I survived. It was our first thanksgiving since my mom died in January. At first, I was not really thinking about it too much, since we really did not do anything.
But when I checked my messages and had about four messages from well-wishers, it hit me. I will not hear Mom wishing me a happy Thanksgiving this year.

My pal Josh (not a blogger, but he should be!) sent me this.
“One of a group of young (very computer-affiliated) friends is dying of cancer. The group makes a pact to place inside the casket of the young woman, once she dies, a webcam (which they dub “necrocam"). This is done mostly out of a sense of wanting to achieve a form of immortality, but with nods to the commercial and shock value of the project.”
You can view the film here. It is about 48 minutes long.
If you prefer to read about it, you can check this NY Times article. (registration required)

My sister and I went to the mall today and she got some BeneFit Lip Gloss, in the color called “Groovy". (which is MY nickname BTW). It’s quite a luscious lip gloss.
It was quite an experience, my first time with a male cosmetic counter assistant. He knew his stuff though. Perhaps he will follow in the footsteps of the great Kevyn Aucoin.
Anyway, we came home and played in the lipgloss and the picture below is the result.

I have three sisters. For their anonymity, I shall call them Psycho, Pinky and Princess. This is in the order of their birth.
This entry is about Pinky, the one whose home I share.
For the last few months, she and I have been having numerous arguments and spats over a variety of things. Most recently, we have been at odds over her decision to have a form of gastric bypass surgery to treat her weight problems.
Finally, we have had a breakthrough.

I am a vocabulary whore. I love learning new words.
I learn MANY new words from fellow bloggers. One of the things that makes it super easy is the yourdictionary.com lookup button you can put on your links toolbar.
You’ll be reading a blog – la de da, just reading a blog, then WHAMMO! Someone uses a word you don’t understand! ACK! What to do, what to do?
With the lookup button, you just highlight the word, click the button and a small window pops up with your definition.
So, it thrills me to share this with you. Tallyho!

A young person has invented a glove that can be used to translate sign language into text and it has been named as one of the top inventions of the year.

two - Having been trained in interpreting sign language, I am wondering how the Deaf community feels about this?

You can now buy your very own handheld lie detector. Go ahead, ask those tough questions “Am I the best?” or “Does my butt look big in these?” and this handy gizmo will tell you if the person is telling you the truth!
But according to the FAQ, when asked “What is the basis for asserting that Truster is highly accurate?”
Their reply:
We recommend that you use Truster as a decision-support tool and not rely solely on its results to make decisions. It has been tested and approved by experts worldwide but much of the interpretation phase has to do with the expertise of the person asking the questions.

Being such a young girl at that time, I do not really have any memory of being told that President Kennedy had been assassinated.
What I do remember is a lot of grown-ups being very very sad. Our TV was black and white, and I actually remember seeing the funeral more than anything.
I remember being very taken with Caroline especially, since she was a girl about my age and wishing I could talk to her. She seemed bewildered to me. I felt very sad for her, not fully comprehending the situation myself.
It really does not matter what history may or may not say about President Kennedy, this was a sad day in our American History.

Day before yesterday I was feeling under the weather because the huge pink monsters that live in throat called tonsils decided they were gonna get really big and puffy and throw their weight around.
So, what’a a girl to do except watch TV?
I somehow happened on the movie Jezebel, from 1938, starring Bette Davis and Henry Fonda.
It was fabulous! I have never really seen an older Bette stuff… she was stunningly, breathtaking away BEAUTIFUL.
I’ve always longed to live in the days of long skirts, cotillions and chivalry, men with chaps and leather boots and whips….WHOA! Getting off track here.

The odd thing…

After DaGoddess tried to say that Brendan Fraser is HER sweetheart (he is SO not her sweetheart, he is MY honey. In fact, he is my husband, and if you do not believe me, you can ask Mrs. Banderas, Mrs. Clooney, Mrs. Cruise and Mrs. Ford who worked with me at my last job!)…..
But I digress.
I took this quiz to see which soda pop I am. (found at Quinn’s)
Go on, click for more. You know I make you click for quiz results.

Along with Burt Lancaster and Brendan Fraser, another favorite actor of mine is Eric Roberts.
I am so glad he is on a sitcom that is doing well.
Most people do not know he is a Golden Globe and Academy Award nominated thespian.
Well, it is true!

Earlier, I blogged my frustrations with the current crop of TV shows with less than buff men who all have very slender wives.
I guess I am not done with that issue.

A hard day in San Giuliano di Puglia, Italy, as they bury most of their six- and seven-year old children.
Lighting a candle and sending strength and love.

Pffffffffft to her new video.
It’s too bad her priority has changed from stunning us with her marvelous voice to showing us she is not a virgin. Her video is gratuitous sex scenes, designed to shock I suppose, but instead repulses.

Damn the government. That’s right, I said it.
They need to get those nose out of Oregon’s business and let the assisted suicide law, which has been passed in Oregon not once, but twice.
Here is the latest article.
And here is an informative website.
I hope to heaven I live somewhere this option will be available to me, should I become terminally ill.

Ugh, I am rebuilding my older entries and found my rebel yell about Premarin.
Sadly, here we are in November 2002 with Premarin still the 3rd prescribed drug. (according to rxlist.com) THIRD! Hello ladies, wake UP!
Lemmings. Blindly taking whatever samples the doctor hands them. SHAME on them!

1. Were you raised in a particular religious faith?
No. Since we lived next door to a Baptist Church, I went there.
2. Do you still practice that faith? Why or why not?
No. I do not believe in organized religion.
3. What do you think happens after death?
Very interesting you should ask. I think it is like the heaven in the novel “The Lovely Bones” which I will not tell so as not to spoil that book for others.
4. What is your favorite religious ritual (participating in or just observing)?
I love the ritual of a Passover Seder.
5. Do you believe people are basically good?
Yes, most days.
