This morning I was thinking about Julia Roberts.

I know, that in and of itself is scary.

I was thinking about all the stuff in the news lately about her twins, and once again, how she “stole” Danny Moder.

So, then I started thinking about Jerry Seinfeld. His wife Jessica was married when he “stole” her away from her husband. In fact, I think they were barely back from their honeymoon.

However, it both of these cases, it is the woman that was vilified. I do not get that. The men had just as much part in this. It’s not like Danny Moder was clinging to Vera saying “No Julia, please no, I am married” and Julia said “No, you will be mine” as she was stabbing his fingers so he would let go of Vera.

I’m just sayin’.

So, I got my pink Christmas tree, as seen at DaisyDo.

It is now proudly in my office, with hot pink and pearl ornaments, with a couple beanie babies and a dreidel game underneath it.

People are coming in all aghast. Even my boss said “I hope people don’t take it the wrong way".

WTF? I am getting the vibe that somehow my tree is not Christian. Unlike their green trees with various colored ornaments and lights on them.

This rant is about the LIES told surrounding his unfortunate death.

The Lie

It found that Tillman was shot to death on April 22 after a U.S. soldier mistakenly fired on a friendly Afghan soldier in Tillman’s unit, and other U.S. soldiers then fired in the same direction.

Our government disgusts me. This “war” disgusts me.

And while I am at it, and again, DO NOT GET ME WRONG, Tillman’s death was tragic. However, I also think that the man who enlisted, and gave up the first years of his first child’s life is just as heroic as a football player who gave up a couple million.

My real last name is clearly German-ish/Russian-ish/Jew-ish.

Growing up, I often encountered prejudice, being called a kike, and having my second grade teacher (you out there Mrs. Kingsmore of Lincoln Elementary School in Burbank, California?) say to me:

If some right-wing organization came forward and said they would pay for everyone who will be kept on life support, sometimes in PAIN, for the rest of their lives so be it. But to squawk in the absence of an alternative solution is nothing but noise.

Further, people will say “They are playing God", I ask you this. Doesn’t God provide for this situation with all other creatures on earth? If a creature is born, and it is too sick to survive, it is allowed to die. Period. To me, that speaks louder of God’s Will than does any old dude sitting in a castle wearing a big white hat.

A judge has ordered a couple NOT to have any more children until the ones they already have are no longer in foster care.

They already have four kids, ages 1, 2, 4 & 5. Three of the children have tested positive for cocaine and are in foster care because of neglect.

The parents have ignored an order to get mental health treatment and attend parent classes after the most recent birth.

This one tests me to the limit, as far as formulating an opinion. On one hand, I agree with the judge, if people are not going to be responsible, then by all means, force them to be.

OTOH, this seems to be a terrible invasion of civil liberties. Or is it? Do we have the right to have as many kids as we want, and then force society to shoulder the burden until such time, if it ever arrives, that we are ready to care for them ourselves?

Do we think of the children, and protect the ones who are here, and protect any ones not yet born?

A new law in California prohibits financial institutions from sharing details of a customer’s transactions without the customer’s permission.

That’s all well and good. Here is my problem with it, as I was personally affected.

Someone wrote me a check, drawn on a bank in California. Because I deposited it here in Colorado, and the bank here cannot call the bank in California to make sure the check is good, I am stuck with an 11 business day hold on a check that has already probably cleared.

To me, the minute you write a check and hand it to someone else, it becomes a negotiable instrument and I have the right to know if it is good or not.

I am not thrilled about this portion of the law, I think it is not in the spirit of the legislation.

I saw right on, and applaud the ACLU for taking on this fight.

On the radio here, I heard lots of upset people over this. They seem unable to get it through their heads that the Federal Constitution overrides any state constitutions. One attorney was speaking that for the last 70 years, states are tweaking the first amendment to their own liking and it is time to crack down and bring them all into compliance with the Federal Constitution.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

On my local news here in Los Angeles, there was just the most propagandized (is that a word?) story! I am speechless.

It seems a kid decided to buy some “Safe and Sane” fireworks, take them apart for the powder inside of them, and try to build a bomb.

His idiotic idea did not work and exploded, causing third degree burns on his forehead.

The news reported this as a reason that fireworks are not safe and sane and no one should be allowed to buy them.

I am not a big fun of fireworks, but not everyone who buys them is a fuckwit who tries to make a BOMB with them. Jeeeez.

This story has me really thinking.

In a town in Floria, vandals ripped a life-size statue of the Virgin Mary down and threw it into the bushes. Mary is now in the church lunchroom to get cleaned up.

My first impulse was to giggle listening to the newstory on video when they said:

“The mother of Jesus had been ripped from her pedestal and tossed into the bushes.”

But the people there are insisting it be treated as a Hate Crime.

A convicted murderer’s death penalty conviction has been overturned because the jurors used biblical passages in their deliberation, and in reaching their verdict.

I agree with the judge’s decision, and am amazed that this story is buried in the “Oddly Enough” section of the Yahoo news. To me, the decision on this appeal is very important.

Don’t flame me, you can use the Bible or Koran or Torah or Course in Miracles when rendering YOUR decision, but none of them belong in the jury room.

So, the Bush Administration has essentially “sued” to force Europe to lift it’s ban on genetically altered foods, now throwing in the reason that they have “undermined efforts to end hunger in Africa".

On the other hand, the Bush Administration has not yet signed the Anti-Smoking Treaty signed by 192 other nations.

So, he cannot do anything to potentially save the lives of his own citizens, but we are trying to force other nations to accept genetically-altered food to *cough* save hungry people in Africa. *cough*

A woman escaped from jail today, kidnapped her son, and police shot her while she was holding him.

I sure as hell hope they find out what caused her to be taken to the hospital last night at 1 a.m. with seizures, because I can guarantee you this is not because of the marijuana they allegedly smelled coming from her jail cell.

I was reading a news article about the loss of Nell Carter, a great talent.

WHY do they have to say this:

In Kansas, a 18 year old boy performed oral sex on a younger teen boy. From everything I read, it appears it was consensual. But in Kansas, this is considered criminal sodomy.

His actions earned him a 17 year prison sentence.

The outrage starts when you hear that had he performed oral sex on a teen girl, he would receive a 15 month sentence.

In my sister’s Ranger pickup, the seatbelt hits me in the neck. If there was an accident, I would surely be decapitated, so I chose to defy the laws.

Personally, I don’t get laws that are made to protect me from me. Get your laws off my body.

So, I started thinking, if there were going to be laws to protect us from ourselves, then why is smoking legal? We ALL know that it kills us, but it is okay. Plus, with smoking, you can hurt someone else.

If I do not wear a seatbelt, or a helmet, I am only hurting me.

I was watching the American Music Awards last night and at the bottom right was the network logo, periodically a news bite would run across the bottom, and then in the upper left, it kept showing a Coke symbol for us to have “interactive advertising” during the show!

And the scarier thing is that most times, I bet you can walk right into your doctor’s office and say “Hi, I need that little maroon pill please, so I can meet a man in the aisle of the supermarket like the lady on the commercial did” and the doctor will say “What is the number for your pharmacy?”

December 12, Dubya announces plans to relax environmental regulations. This affects 10 of our national forests. His excuse?

“Dense overgrown forests and range lands have grown like a cancer. They need to be treated.”

The real reason? He’s got to give the timber industry something. They could not get it through Congress, but Dubya will just hand it to them.

Their plans are flawed, all they want is that old growth timber. This sucks.

Maybe it is because I am older, but I have honestly never felt afraid of a President before. This one has me losing sleep.

My gosh. What is it with family secrets?

It was so weird at work today.

The bosses kept expecting us to act like nothing had happened.

Then, because one guy was VERY upset (like the rest of us weren’t) we were all told to NOT TALK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED.

Dear God, the world just changed, there might be thousands of people dead, all the planes in the sky have been told to land, two HUGE buildings are gone…

Tonight I was thinking, as I am known to do.

This whole thing about the millenium has me baffled.

I see shoes, rings, champagne, sheets, etc. etc. ad nauseum, that has 2000 on it. So, I figured since I am such a cynic anyway, I should probably talk to someone else.

As luck would have it, I just happened to talk to my sister Cynthia today. She was explaining to me how someone at her work thought the millenium happened every 100 years. (poor dear)

So, Cynthia explained to me how she had painstakingly explained to this other person that it happens once every 1000 years. THAT was my answer. ONCE every thousand years.

But, it begs that question, wasn’t it 1000 years since 999 last New Year’s eve? And wasn’t it 1000 years since 1000 years ago today this morning?

And not to be difficult, but what if I celebrate the Chinese New Year or the Jewish New Year? Get my point?

They have reached the Kursk and all of them are dead.

As a woman who is in the baby boomer age, I am fully aware of how much our generation of women is being used as hormonal guinea pigs. I am specifically talking about Hormone Replacement Therapy. On this page, I do not have an opinion for or against HRT.

However, I do have a VERY STRONG opinion and outrage against the doling out of the drug “Premarin” to women at menopausal age.

In case you do not know, here is how Premarin is derived.
PREgnant MARes urINe.

That’s right. Horse piss.. The hormones used in Premarin are taken from the urine of pregnant horses. There are about 8 to 9 million women using Premarin.
You may be thinking, so what’s the big deal? Let me see if I can explain.

A mare is impregnated through artificial insemination, and then put in a stall with a Urine Collection Device attached to her bodies. And there she stands. And stands. And stands. Never allowed to lay down. This UCD is supposed to be so much more humane than a catheter, but it basically covers the mare’s vulva, and often means a device filled with urine is always on her vulva, causing infection and pain.

The mares are kept quite well fed, so when they finally get so debilitated from constantly being impregnated and foaled, impregnated and foaled, they are ready for the slaughterhouse.

But, the mares are not given adequate water to drink. The less water the mares are given, the higher the concentration of estrogen. It’s all about profit, profit, profit, from the urine, to the mare, to their foals.

I am sure you can imagine what happens to all the baby horses.

PLEASE if anyone you know is taking Premarin, talk to her. Ask her to talk to her doctor about the alternatives. These alternatives are synthetic, or plant-based. Also, there are simple diet and lifestyle changes that a woman can make, particularly eating soy.

There simply is no excuse for the inhumane treatment of these horses. There is no excuse that women are not given all the facts about their medication, and alternatives. If you are a doctor reading this, and you prescribe Premarin, STOP!
