One Girl Overflows

Saturday, January 31st, 2004

After admiring Christine’s Cookie Crumbs and Jennifer’s Etc, I decided to have a little side blog for myself.

In the case of One Girl’s Life…Overflows, it (so far) is just links of things I want to keep handy, and I love that I can categorize them using MT.

I have also added a sidebar entry that will show the last four overflows added. In case you are interested, it’s there! If not interested, it will still be there. LOL.

Fuck You Florida

Wednesday, January 28th, 2004

Gays will not be allowed to adopt in Florida. The case has been lost. For now.

Florida argued the state has a right to legislate its “moral disapproval of homosexuality” and its belief that children need a married parent for healthy development.

Jeb Bush was “pleased". *snort* WHAT A SHOCK.

Yeah, let’s be sure to remove the kids from this family. Because Lord knows, there are a shortage of preteen black kids available for adoption.

Thank God for the ACLU, which says in their press release:

We think the court is wrong in thinking that the Constitution lets the government assume that sexual orientation has anything to do with good parenting.

and

If single people can adopt in Florida, if gay people can be foster parents and legal guardians, and if there are thousands of children languishing in foster care, there can be no justification for Florida’s ban on gay adoptions other than impermissible prejudice and hostility toward gay people.

This pisses me off SO bad.

I Love You, but….

Tuesday, January 27th, 2004

You gotta love surveys. I always wonder whose best interest they are serving. Nonetheless…

According to a survey done by American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, of people who are dating or married, 59% of the women and 54% of the men said they would like to change at least one feature of their partner’s face.

What is this world coming to? “I love you, but will you have surgery that you could DIE from to make your nose a tad straighter for me?” “I married you for better or for worse, but could you lose those wrinkles?”

Someone hand me a fork. I am going to stab my own eyes out.

I’m Drawing a Line in the Sand

Tuesday, January 27th, 2004

On this blog, I will express my feelings about the current situation in our (American) government. I will ponder and pontificate and generally blather on in a fairly liberal way.

But I will NOT allow you to come here and make anti-American comments. I live here, I vote here, I am a citizen and I am free to talk about how I am going to vote, etc. Yeah, that’s right, it may seem a paradox, but I am free here. It’s what I get to do.

But YOU coming from another country and expressing anti-American sentiments here, I will not allow it.

Just so you know. You’ve been deleted.

Just Say No to the Patriot Act

Tuesday, January 27th, 2004

In Los Angeles, the judge, Audrey B. Collins of Federal District Court, said in a decision made public on Monday that a provision in the law banning certain types of support for terrorist groups was so vague that it risked running afoul of the First Amendment.

Thank God someone is paying attention to the language of the Act and has the balls to say NO!

I will not be one of the sheep lead to a country of zero civil rights by a president who uses terrorism as his excuse for everything.

Nightmares

Monday, January 26th, 2004

I am so tired of having nightmares. And mine are horrible, life-like, never-ending nightmares.

Just the night before, I witnessed a murder and last night, I was accused of killing two people and was thrown in jail. My dad would not respond to my calls to help me find a lawyer and I was just stuck there.

There were truly truly horrible.

The thing I hate is that I wake myself up, get up, walk around a bit and go back to bed, and the SAME nightmare starts up again as soon as I go to sleep.

I literally today had to wake up and take an anti-anxiety pill just to stop shaking and crying.

It sucks.

Globes=Boring

Monday, January 26th, 2004

Was that the most BORING show ever? Where were the drunken fools? Okay, Al Pacino was pretty strange, and Bill Murray scared me just a little…

I was traumatized once by a really nasty scary Jonathan Winters (true story) and I worry that maybe comedians are all really nasty scary people.

But I digress.

Was J.Lo with her perma-erect nipples playing her “saddest little girl in the world” act to the hilt? WTF was she even DOING there? Nipple ratings?

Yay to Sean Penn. Feel free to call me anytime Sean, I got your winner’s kiss waiting for you right here.

peace.

Bad Memory

Sunday, January 25th, 2004

It’s funny how some things in our life we just conveniently erase from our minds.

I had forgotten about one particular incident with my 2nd ex-husband until Mikey mentioned Vanity 6.

I used to have a lot of albums. I was (am) a Prince fanatic, and by association, I was into his various girl bands. (I did miss Carmen Electra as a rapper, but I think I can survive that)

One of my favorite albums was a solo effort by Vanity called “Wild Animal". It had some great songs on it. When Mikey mentioned it, I had to go back into the dark recesses of my mind to try to figure out what the hell happened to that record.

Then, I remembered.

When I married my second husband, he seemed like a relatively normal, albeit pretty republican guy. He never let on through our courtship that he was indeed a bigot.

One day, as I was happily spinning Prince’s International Lover, he went NUTS. He started screaming, saying the N word and scared the shit out of me. He grabbed my albums and started throwing every one of them by a black artist out into the driveway. Having come from a first marriage of violence, I was not strong enough at that time in my life to stand up to him.

Once all the albums were culled, he then went into the garage, got a sledge hammer, and proceeded to bash every one of those albums into smithereens.

Isn’t that a fucked up deal? Thank God I am not married to him any longer, although he has recently expressed regrets about our breakup. I was stunned. We were about as compatible as salt on a snail.

So, in a bitchy moment, I reminded him that I got him to vote for Dukakis, he got really pissed about it ALL over again, and now I don’t think I will hear from him anymore.

Heh. Thinking back on the album incident, one wonders why I would even want to, no?

The Heathen Checks In

Sunday, January 25th, 2004

The town I live in is very Christian. In fact, in the face of all laws to the contrary, some job postings here say things like “must be committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ". Yeah.

Needless to say, 6:30 am on a Sunday, I was the only one in the supermarket. All five of the employees working there STARED at me. I know they were thinking “she’s a heathen, probably up all night doing drugs and men".

On a happier note, PresidentMatch hooked me up with Kucinich and that is JUST fine with me. Bush was last on my dance card…. everybody say “awwwwwwww” with me now.

Apprentice News

Friday, January 23rd, 2004

I have not yet watched my recorded episode from last Wednesday. I am treating it like a fine wine, and letting it age a bit before I pop its cork.

BUT, I have just learned that they are moving The Apprentice BACK to Thursday night since American Idol apparently kicked its ass.

Nothing unusual about that. The thing I found weird was this quote from Mitch Metcalf, NBC’s senior vice president for program planning and scheduling:

“Two of the hottest shows on television right now are ‘The Apprentice’ and ‘American Idol.’ We think it’s a disservice to viewers to have them squaring off against each other”

WTF? That’s a mighty sweet sentiment coming from a network. Since when do they care that they pit the best programs against each other? I never saw Friends moved for Survivor, or Law and Order:SVU moved so it did not interfere with NYPD Blue.

It’s like my momma always said, Don’t piss on my face and tell me it’s raining, Mitch. You moved it for YOU. Not for me.

It IS January, right?

Thursday, January 22nd, 2004

I am irritated. This rant may cause some of you to think I am from another planet, but really, it is just my first winter in a cold place.

It is January. We got more winter coming, there is snow on the ground, it’s forecasted to snow some more, and it rarely gets above 40.

But can I find a pair of snow boots or a sweater or two?

Hell no. All the stores have pretty much clearanced out all the winter stuff and it’s all linen and such for spring.

I DO NOT GET IT. But then I think I am missing a couple of “girls do this, girls know this” genes. I am not ready to shop for June right now. I need some turtlenecks and Sorels and I would appreciate it if they were still in stock. I will not be ready to shop for winter in August either.

And while you are it, if I see an Easter Card on February 15, I may just start tearing them all from the racks screaming ‘NO EASTER CARDS IN FEBRUARY’ really really loud.

A 45-year old Pennsylvania woman has been put in jail after her daughter turned her in.

For what? For performing sex acts on TODDLERS! And it is on videotape!

When I read stuff like I just shudder with rage to think that some lawyer is going to try to defend her. I know that is her right and it is our system, but PLEASE! It is on video!

Berlin Reunited

Tuesday, January 20th, 2004

Well now, vh1 has a spiffy idea with their latest programming effort, Bands Reunited.

Tonight’s episode was reuniting Berlin! I was so happy I caught it. I saw them in concert at the Universal Amphitheatre and although it scares me to no end to think that was about 20 years ago, apparently it was. *flops* As I recall, that was a really good concert. They sang “Sex, I’m a…” and then acted out some sexy stuff behind one of those huge screens where you could only see their shadows.

Tomorrow night, Romeo Void will be reunited, which honestly, I cannot think of one song of theirs except “Never Say Never". As I recall, that song was very edgy and only those of us who were really out there danced to that. Heh. How funny. Now they have songs about milkshakes and ass. I miss the olden days.

The rest of the bands they are going to reunite are:
A Flock Of Seagulls - remember the hair?
Dramarama - *blank*
Extreme - their More Than Words video and song made me swoon.
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax!
Kajagoogoo - Cuz you’re too shy shy, hush hushhhhhhhhh.
Klymaxx - Did they sing Meet Me in the Ladies Room?
Squeeze - Black coffee in bed with that lead singer, anytime!
The Alarm - *blank again*

Fun memories.

Are you left-handed?

Sunday, January 18th, 2004

If you are, then you make me swoon.

Don’t ask me why, but ever since I was 18, I have had a “thing” for left-handed men. Really. I am not kidding.

A lefty ups the “OMG, I want you!” ratio significantly.

Just the other night, I was watching Law and Order:CI, which stars one of my fantasy boyfriends, Vincent D’Onofrio. He was just being left-handed sexy all over the place…fingers through a rolodex, putting a push-pin up on a board… it was all I could do to contain myself. I literally melted inside and felt weak.

Am I the only one?

Bush Ignores WHO

Saturday, January 17th, 2004

What asses that Bush administration are.

They are now saying there is no good science in the World Health Organization’s findings that limiting food advertising aimed at children and reducing the amounts of fats, salts and sugary sodas.

That is so fucking BLATANTLY STUPID and obviously bowing to some corporate pressure. (*waves at PepsiCo and Hershey*)

Their argument is the report does not include enough data about how ultimately, a person’s health/obesity issues are personal responsibility. So, NOW I get personal freedom?

But I can’t carry an almanac in an airport.

Ass Kickin’

Friday, January 16th, 2004

Someone ’round here needs a good ass kickin’.

It’s me.

I could kick my own ass for deleting every damn file from my directories when I had the brilliant idea to recreate this blog over from scratch.

WTF was I thinking? That I actually understand MT? Or CSS? And that I can create a new and fantastical design that makes more than zero two people want to come and stare at my blog each day?

So, I am holding on to the side of the sink, jumping up, and trying to make my own feet reach my own ass. You would think with the lovely roundness of the thing I could do this, but so far I cannot.

Drug Ads

Wednesday, January 14th, 2004

This post is inspired by Kaya, at brothers.styn.net (who have yet to implement a trackback system. MT n00bs!)

Kaya is amused/entertained/possibly scared by the prescription drug ads and their side effects warnings.

The contrast of the happy smiling people while the voiceover is talking about diarrhea, seizures, bleeding and what not is to me, just another sympton of how spoon-fed and lemming-like we are becoming.

But, since the topic is prescription drug ads… let me just share MY favorite.

Thinking of You, Mom

Wednesday, January 7th, 2004

Two years ago today, you left the confines of your hurting body and went to heaven.

Last year, I wrote about the immediate experience.

This year, I just feel a deep and abiding grief, so many thing I still wanted to talk to you about, I did not know enough about you and I am sorry you felt so alone in this world.

We did love you I hope now wherever you are, my Angel Mom, that you are surrounded with an infinite warmth of love and that you look down on us and know how much we miss you and loved you.

I dream of you so often, I hope that is you visiting me.

I hope you have found true warmth, your little body was always so cold at the end.

Your baby misses her mommy and wishes she could see her again. Maybe someday.

I think of you every day and I miss you more not less. I will never forget you, Mom.

Day 2 of job

Tuesday, January 6th, 2004

It went better than the first.

I have really had to wrestle with myself and pray for humility and patience, and at the same time not beat up on myself.

I have to really strive to remember that this job is NOT my life, is NOT the rest of my life, I am NOT stuck here, and I am NOT stupid because I am working as an administrative assistant.

I need to focus on staying kidney-healthy, managing my mental health, taking care of a special needs dog, perhaps even having a life in there somewhere.

It is all going to be okay.
It is all going to be okay.
It is all going to be okay.

Got my hair cut today by a professional. LOVE it. It reminds me of a sixties rocker cut. Sorry for the blur.
